The Moore Movement, The Better!
Hello! My name is Aimee and I am participating in Moving Day DFW, benefiting the Parkinson's Foundation.
I am moving in honor of my dad, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2015 and has been battling its symptoms each and every day. For my dad, Parkinson's disease first presented challenges with initiating movement, such as standing from a seated position and changed his otherwise, unremarkable gait to one characterized by short, shuffling steps. He then began having problems with rigidity, pain, and anxiety as he began noticing these changes occur. Over the past 8 years, his disease course has fluctuated wildly. From freezing of gait episodes to postural instability and balance problems, to blunted emotional expression, cognitive difficulties, and significant functional changes, it has been challenging to witness this decline. My dad has always been a tirelessly, hard worker, a devoted spouse and father, and a man with a heart of pure gold. Parkinson's disease has taken a lot from him over the past few years, as well as from my family and I. Although I have devoted my career to working with individuals with cognitive decline and dementia, witnessing my dad decline cognitively to the point of dementia has been difficult. Now, more than ever, I am devoted to raising awareness about Parkinson's disease and generating funds to support the Parkinson's Foundation and their mission.
Please consider being a part of my team, The Moore Movement, or sponsoring me or another Moore Movement team member. I encourage you to get your friends, family and coworkers involved!
Your gift will help us fund better research, better treatment and better lives.
