Advancing Hope in Parkinson’s Care
Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist – Brain, Spine and Nerve Health
Nearly one million Americans live with Parkinson’s disease and for patients and families, the journey often involves managing symptoms while navigating treatments that can slow the disease but rarely stop it.
At Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist – Brain, Spine and Nerve Health, our neurosurgery team is committed to improving the lives of people living with Parkinson’s through advanced care, innovative research, and compassionate support.
We are proud to serve as the presenting sponsor of Parkinson’s Moving Day in the Piedmont Triad. This event brings together patients, caregivers, clinicians, and advocates to raise awareness, support research, and strengthen the Parkinson’s community.
Our team has long been a leader in advanced Parkinson’s treatments, including deep brain stimulation (DBS), a therapy that uses precisely targeted electrical stimulation in the brain to help reduce symptoms such as tremor and rigidity.
We are also helping advance one of the most exciting new technologies in Parkinson’s care with High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HiFU). This innovative therapy uses MRI-guided sound waves to precisely target areas of the brain responsible for Parkinson’s symptoms, without surgical incisions. Performed as an outpatient procedure, HiFU offers a non-invasive treatment option with minimal recovery time and the potential to significantly improve quality of life. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is one of only a select few medical centers in North Carolina to have this technology.
Through initiatives such as the Minimally Invasive NeuroInnovation and Discovery (MIND) Alliance, our clinicians and researchers continue working to bring groundbreaking treatments like HiFU to patients. This initiative brings together neurosurgeons, neurologists, radiologists, engineers, and NIH funded scientists under one collaborative platform. By integrating technologies such as MRI-guided focused ultrasound, robotic-assisted procedures, advanced imaging, and neuromodulation therapies, the goal is to simply deliver treatments that are safer, smarter, and more effective for patients. This multidisciplinary approach helps ensure discoveries move quickly from the research lab to patient care.
Events like Moving Day remind us that progress happens when communities come together. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is honored to stand alongside patients, families, and advocates across the Triad as we work toward a future with better treatments—and greater hope—for those living with Parkinson’s.
