Moving Day Story – Dr. Vilasini Shanbhag

Dr. Vilasini Shanbhag was our top individual donor for Moving Day Buffalo 2019! We wanted to showcase her as we are incredibly grateful for all she has done and continues to do for the Parkinson’s Foundation.

This was Dr. Shanbhag’s 5th year participating in Moving Day Buffalo. After her husband passed away, she was looking for a way to get involved with the Parkinson’s community. Our former board president, Vicky Glamuzina, talked to her about Moving Day Buffalo and she decided to join the Board of Directors and then later got involved with Moving Day Buffalo. Dr. Shanbhag has several family members going back to her great aunt, an uncle, and friends who have/had PD and she feels it is her passion, and the best way she knows how to help the Parkinson’s Foundation. If she can walk for her family and friends, she feels like she is making a difference.

Her favorite part of Moving Day Buffalo is to see Parkinsonians make an effort to walk. Even if they are not able to walk the full distance, seeing their desire to hang on to the abilities that they currently have, and to make them stronger, makes her heart warm. When it comes to fundraising Dr. Shanbhag finds that face to face interactions are the best way for her to raise money for Moving Day Buffalo. She will set a goal for herself and if she doesn’t meet that goal with donations collected, she will make up the difference. She feels that once she sets a personal goal, she needs to meet it!

We loved hearing Dr.Shanbhag’s Moving Day Buffalo story and we hope that her passion for Moving Day and supporting the Parkinson’s Foundation inspires you like it did for us!

Moving Day has raised nearly $45 million and brought more than 186,000 participants together.
