The reason that I walk is because, as a person living with Parkinson’s Disease, I understand how deeply this disease affects your daily life. I understand the severe need this community has for improved medication and treatments. It wasn’t until I started taking a medication that was released in just the last few years that I was able to regain something that resembled normal and restore some quality of life. The even bigger need for patients like me is a treatment that can cure or even slow this disease progression down, because even the best current treatment options only manage symptoms.
I love Moving Day because it is a perfect example of how wonderful the Parkinson’s Community is and how strong we can be together. The first Moving Day event Julia and I attended was right after my diagnosis, and we were still in shock. Seeing all of the tents with doctors, medication, physical therapy options, and so many people providing help and information, it was game-changing.
