Parkinson’s Foundation Announces Honorees for Moving Day Salt Lake City

The Parkinson’s Foundation is proud to announce the distinguished honorees for its upcoming Moving Day, set to take place on Saturday, May 3. The event will bring together community leaders, supporters, and advocates to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson’s disease research, care, and education programs.
This year’s event will honor two local individuals whose outstanding contributions have made a significant impact on the Parkinson’s community. They have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those affected by Parkinson’s disease, advancing research efforts, and providing resources for families and caregivers.

Meet the Honorees:

Rebecca Starks, University of Utah, As the UU Neurosciences Department Parkinson’s Outreach Coordinator, Rebecca has been a tireless advocate for Parkinson’s research and patient care. Through her work with support groups, educational symposiums, newsletters and more, she has helped foster advancements in treatment options and quality of life for those living with Parkinson’s disease. Rebecca is a Moving Day committee member and was the Parkinson’s Foundation’s 2024 Rocky Mountain Chapter Volunteer of the Year.

Carol Huffman, Carol has been living with Parkinson’s disease for over 20 years, but she is most well known for her leadership in the community as a volunteer and advocate. Carol has provided support to the Parkinson’s community through volunteering at events and raising awareness about programs and resources that’s she’s found personally helpful such as boxing, dancing, and getting involved with research. Her commitment to volunteerism has helped countless families navigate the complexities of living with Parkinson’s disease while remaining a beacon of hope and inspiration. She credits her supportive family and friends for helping her stay positive.

In addition to honoring these exceptional individuals the event will feature live music from Joe Escobar, a person living with PD, as well as presentations from fitness groups and physical therapists.
“We are excited to celebrate the achievements of this year’s honorees, whose dedication has made a real difference in the lives of those living with Parkinson’s disease across Utah,” said Kristin Courington of the Parkinson’s Foundation. “Their work reflects the spirit of hope and progress that continues to drive the Foundation’s mission forward.”

The Parkinson’s Foundation invites the public to join in this celebration of progress and support for those affected by Parkinson’s disease. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Foundation’s efforts to enhance care, advance research, and improve the quality of life for those living with Parkinson’s disease.

Moving Day has raised $50.2 million and brought more than 202,000 participants together.
