Parkinson’s Foundation to Honor Nene and Jamie Koch at Moving Day Albuquerque

The Parkinson’s Foundation (PF) will host its fifth annual Moving Day Albuquerque, A Walk for Parkinson’s, at the Nene & Jamie Koch Comprehensive Movement Disorder Center at the University of New Mexico on Saturday, June 3 starting at 9:30 am.

One million Americans are living with Parkinson’s, with 90,000 people newly diagnosed each year. Moving Day Albuquerque is a fun and inspiring fundraising event that unites the community in the fight against Parkinson’s. Since 2011, Moving Day events across the country have raised more than $17 million to improve care and advance research toward a cure.

“Moving Day is fun, it is great exercise, and it’s educational,” said Kristin Courington, co-chair of the walk. “But mostly, the support of the community enables us to continue to make meaningful improvements in the lives of those with Parkinson’s.”

More than just a walk, Moving Day Albuquerque is a celebration of movement featuring a kids’ area, refreshments, a performance by the Healing Harmonies Neuro Choir, and a special Movement Pavilion with PWR Moves, Rock Steady Boxing and other activities—all proven to help manage Parkinson’s symptoms.

This year the Southwest Chapter of the Parkinson’s Foundation will be honoring Nene and Jamie Koch at Moving Day Albuquerque. Nene and Jamie have made a significant impact in the Parkinson’s community through their efforts to create the Comprehensive Movement Disorder Center at UNM Health. After his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2017, Jamie realized the need for a specialized center like those in Colorado and Arizona and along with the efforts of a wonderful team across the state made this vision a reality. The Center, which opened in November 2022, provides New Mexicans with local care for movement disorders and access to state of the art research.

Funds raised through Moving Day support the Parkinson’s Foundation national mission by: delivering expert care to more than 197,000 people living with Parkinson’s; funding cutting-edge research to advance toward a cure; providing free resources for people living with Parkinson’s and their families.
